June 16, 2016

If nothing else, last weekend reminded us that weather forecasts are……..ahem…….not extremely reliable. On Saturday, the wind was supposed to drop off the cliff about 11:00 a.m……..it waited until 1:30 in the afternoon to do so. On Sunday, we were supposed to be sailing in 15 mph breezes………..not so much. Steady 20+ mph, with gusts to 33 mph, pretty much decimated the Sunday morning racing fleets.

NEXT CLYC PARTY IS FAST APPROACHING………it’s this Saturday, June 18, 6:30 p.m. at the venerable Outing Club. X Boat Parents, C’s and E’s are in charge of bringing the hors d’oeuvres……and trying to outdo what the Social Members accomplished at the last party. This party has been christened as “Past Commodore’s Night”…….but the current Commodore promises there will be no speeches, no awards, no fanfare, no funny hats……….just an opportunity, if you wish to partake, to thank the “retired” commodores for their past service.

Note:   Please park on the side streets that are plentiful around the Outing Club and enter around the south end of the property (not through the building itself)…….Those of you who have the urge to wander around inside the Outing Club are cordially invited by the Protzmans, Schurtzes and Jeffreys (the last three cottages on the south end) to visit their porches.

HELP SHAPE UP THE RAIN GARDEN……..The rain garden at the Yacht Club is overgrown and unkempt. It needs help. Jim Sholley, who is the new head of the CLEAR project, has offered to assist the CLYC in planning for new plantings. Before we can do new plants we need to clear out some of the plant growth that is there. So, Margaret Oz needs volunteers (ideally about 10 of you) who have a talent for gardening, or are just good at plant removal and destruction, to arrive at the Yacht Club at 9:00 a.m., Monday, June 20th, bringing shovels, pruning shears, pitchforks, scythes, whatever it takes to quickly clean out the garden. It will go fast if a good group shows up. RSVP Margaret at inremoz@aol.com or 612-418-8856.

Later, Oz
