June 23, 2016

I think we actually got all of our races in last weekend. Saturday’s lighter breezes kept ramping up until they were howling by Sunday afternoon, which caused the annual Dad/Mom/Lad/Lass race to get postponed until this weekend. And thank you’s to the Outing Club, its members, and those of you who helped make last Saturday evening’s CLYC party a real pleasure (the C Boat “bar” was even there).

THE ANNUAL DAD/MOM/LAD/LASS RACE…….is this Sunday, June 26, at 2:00 p.m. It had to be rescheduled due to Mother Nature’s lack of cooperation this past Sunday afternoon. So, all of you X Boat parents, prepare yourself for the embarrassment of having your kids chuckle at your measly efforts to race boats that are not designed to be raced by anyone your age……..good luck!

THE ALL IOWA X REGATTA………is being hosted by Clear Lake on Monday and Tuesday, June 27 and 28. This is a great opportunity for our X Boaters to get acquainted with their counterparts from Lake Okoboji and to get some racing experience to better prepare them for off-lake regattas.

Andy Burdick, President of Melges Performance Sailing, will be traveling from Zenda, Wisconsin to assist in coaching at the regatta. If I were an X Boater, I would take full advantage of that.

Andy will also be demonstrating the new Melges 14 on Monday evening for any of you who might be interested in seeing how this new sailboat performs.

NOTICE TO THE MC FLEET…………It has been decided that, on Saturday mornings, the MC Fleet will not be sailing back-to-back races, unless the fleet is behind on scheduled races. This will not affect the X Fleet, which will still be sailing back-to-backs on Saturday mornings.

YACHT CLUB RAIN GARDEN UPDATE……….Last Monday, Margaret Oz’s group of volunteer gardeners (and that means you, Nancy Protzman, Joanne Nicholas, Tom DeBartolo, Vince and Jenny Tomlinson, Dave Atkinson, Julie and Alida Lundberg, Kathy MacNider…..and the CLEAR project’s Jim Sholly) cleaned out much of the bad stuff that had been growing in the rain garden. The plan is to do a “rain garden burn” this fall, with all new plantings (including flowers) in the spring……and to place some signage there so people will better understand the garden’s purpose. Thanks to all of you for chipping in….

CLYC BOARD MEETING……….The web site shows a board meeting scheduled for this Saturday, June 25, at 4:00 p.m. at the Yacht Club. However, I’ve heard murmurings that the Commodore was considering rescheduling……so I’ll leave it up to him to give you board members the final word.

Later, Oz
