August 23, 2019

I know a lot of the excitement around the lake has kind of dropped off now that the Iowa State Fair, Wing Ding and the annual meeting of the Association for the Preservation of Clear Lake have come and gone.  But, in honor of the Minnesota State Fair, which starts today, this edition of the newsletter will be your Crow’s Nest On-a Stick.

Last weekend, thanks to the patience and perseverance of our PROs, we got all of our club races in. And it seemed like the same was true for the Hobie Division 7 regatta that was held in the west end of the lake.

It’s finally time to start thinking about end of season stuff………..

CLYC YEAR END BANQUET AND AWARDS CEREMONY………..will be held Sunday, September 1 at the Yacht Club. Details will be forthcoming……..however I don’t believe that food on-a-stick in any form made the cut as far as the menu goes.  Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. and the awards program will commence at 6:30 p.m.

KINDLY RETURN YOUR CLUB TRAVELING TROPHIES…….to Mark Tesar (mtesar@cltel.net) as soon as you can, but definitely in time for the Year End Banquet, so Mark can award them to this year’s rightful owners……….because everyone needs something for their fireplace mantels during the cold winter months.

BLOOPER AWARD NOMINATIONS………..are now open, and actually have been all season. The Year End Banquet will, of course, culminate in the Yacht Club’s annual “show and tell” where you can diss on your fellow CLYC members who have made some less than brilliant moves on or around our lake or other bodies of water………moves that for the rest of us are hilarious or amusing, but for the nominees not so much. Nominations are being accepted by Stu Oltrogge (clyciowa@gmail.com), so make sure you contact him before the Banquet.

ILYA CHAMPIONSHIPS……….were last week at Lake Winnebago.  The winds were shaky and quirky, from what I hear.  Mark Tesar was our lone MC representative, but he did grab 4thplace overall.  Our revived E Fleet sent the Price, Oltrogge and Nicholas teams to Oshkosh and all finished somewhere in the middle of the pack of 48 E Boats.

THIS WEEKEND……..is MC Nationals at Lake Minnetonka.  Good luck to the bevy of Clear Lake MC sailors that will be competing there.

Later, Oz
