The Clear Lake Yacht Club Sailing School program has some new faces this year! We are pleased to welcome Kim Holtz as a new board member. Head Instructors will be Taylor Zachar for X-boats and Chase Langhart for Optis. As always, the Sailing School will try to blend fun and learning in a low-pressure environment. Our mission is to give our students both the basic knowledge needed to sail and a life long enjoyment of it.
We will continue to have the one week sessions for those who have visitors or short stays— the longer sessions are now 12 days in duration and the X-boat program has expanded its length of class time to 4.75 hours. Three levels of Opti and X instruction and an Adult Class will be offered.
Enrollment in our adult program has been strong and we will continue to hold classes on Tuesday nights beginning June 17 and running through July 22. Private lessons are also available from any of our instructors. Use your own boat or we’ll provide a sailing school boat. Contact the Sailing School at 357-8001 to set up private lessons.
Family Fun Night Potlucks are scheduled for Friday, June 27th and Wednesday, July 16th. All CLYC members and anyone that might be interested in sailing school are welcome to attend. We will provide the grills, instructors, sailboats, and some racing with fun prizes for the attendees. Bring your meat to grill, beverages, and a dish to share. Fun nights start at 6:00 pm at the yacht club.
Registration forms will be mailed to CLYC members in the Crow’s Nest and past sailing school families. If additional forms are required, they will be available from the Clear Lake Parks and Recreation office, at the CLYC, or online at www.clyciowa.com for complete information, calendar, and registration forms- click on Sailing School.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact Margaret Osmundson at Inremoz@aol.com or 641-357-5513. We will be implementing teaching techniques from the US Sailing instructor training. We look forward to working with your children. They are the future of the CLYC.
