 The Clear Lake Yacht Club Sailing School is gearing up for another exciting summer of sailing.  Mark Tesar will lead the same board as last year with the addition of CLYC Vice-commodore John Vratsinas.  The Program Director will be Tara Randall, the Head X Instructor will be Drake Lundeen and the Head Opti Instructor will be Harrison Southwick.  As always, the Sailing School will try to blend fun and learning in a low-pressure environment.  Our mission is to give our students both the basic knowledge needed to sail and a lifelong enjoyment of sailing.

This year, the schedule will be made up of six one-week sessions.  We encourage people to sign up for multiple sessions as they fit into their summer schedule.  The beginning Opti and X classes will meet 8:30 – 11:30 and the intermediate Opti and X classes will meet 12:00 – 3:00.  We will also have an Adult class again this year.

Enrollment in our adult program has been strong and we will continue to hold classes on Tuesday nights beginning June 21 and running through July 26.  Private lessons are also available from any of our instructors.  You can use your own boat or we’ll provide a sailing school boat.  Contact the Sailing School at 641-357-8001 to set up private lessons.

Family Fun Night Potlucks are scheduled for Thursday, June 23rd and Friday, July 22rd.  All CLYC members and anyone that might be interested in sailing school are welcome to attend.  We will provide the grills, instructors, sailboats, and some racing with fun prizes for the attendees.  Bring your meat to grill, beverages, and a dish to share.  Fun nights start at 6:00 pm at the yacht club building.

We will host a “No Tears” Opti regatta at the Clear Lake Yacht Club on Friday, July 15th, which is always a lot of fun.  White Bear (Minnesota) will host the ILYA Opti Championship regatta July 31 – August 02.  Clear Lake will also be hosting the ILYA X Championships July 27-30.

CLYCSS Registration forms will be mailed to CLYC members in the Crow’s Nest and past sailing school families.  If additional forms are required, they will be available from the Clear Lake Parks and Recreation office, at the CLYC, or online at www.clyciowa.com for complete information, calendar, and registration forms- click on Sailing School.
