Whitaker's Pier, across the street from the lake shore
hotel sat one of the most ambitious yet short lived entertainment
facilities. Built in 1890 by Issac Whitaker was 144 feet on a side
and 3 stories tall. Bandstands at each, and a bowling alley in the
lower level. Unforturntely he built this during a period of low
water, and as the water rose, his building flooded. After several
winters of ice damage it was torn down in 1894, earning the structure name
"Whitaker's Folly" |

White Pier, built in 1910 was an early popular dance Hall
located at the west end of Main street where the seawall now stands. Boat
rentals on its lower level and movies and dances in its upper ballroom
provided many evenings of entertainment. The tornado of 1931 destroyed the
structure. |
