Camp Ground Dock, The island queen an early iron steamer was
owned by the second proprietor of the Island Hotel, Charles Bergh.
It was used to ferry visitors to and from the island (replacing the wooden
steamer Lady of the Isle that sank in July 1871). She was 47 feet
long, 9 feet wide and 5 feet deep, built entirely of iron and cruised at
15mph. The boat could hold 150 passengers. |

Princess, with the advent of the gasoline engine,
boats using this mode of transportation proliferated on the lake.
The "Ideal" the first public launch, was a gas powered boat
brought to the lake by J.F. Younglove. He also owned the Princess
which ferried passengers to and from Bayside. During the great storm
of 1931, the Princess capsized. It was righted and continued to give
excursion rides until it was move to the Silver Boot Amusement Park.

Oaks Hotel, built in 1893 at the site of the present
Hilltop Motel and was a popular summer hotel as the trolley let passengers
at its front door. |
