Welcome
to yet another season of sailing on what I believe is one of the
premier sailing destinations in the Midwest. Since 1935 the Clear Lake
Yacht Club has promoted the sport of sailing and provided a social
setting for people with a common interest. We currently promote and
sponsor racing in six fleets (E Scow, C Scow, Hobie, Melges 17, MC
Scow, and X). Additionally we continue to be committed to our support
of the Clear Lake Yacht Club Sailing School. It is the sailing school
that brought my family into the CLYC family many years ago. It thrills
me to see that the sailing school is still able to perform that
function today. We are a nationally recognized sailing organization
(former US Sailing One Design Club of the Year) due in part to our
ability to host and run absolutely fabulous regattas. This year we
will be hosting the 2013 MC Scow National Championships in June. It
will be the third time in 13 years that the CLYC has hosted this
event. The simple fact is all who come to our events want to come back
for another. Also the CLYCSS will be hosting the ILYA Opti Racing No
Tears West Regatta in August. And then in September the MC’s will be
back for the MCSA Team Championships. While it is our shared
experiences of sailing bind us together, it is also our shared
dedication to service to others that truly makes the CLYC special. We
are blessed to have so many members who give their time so freely. It
is in this spirit that I find it to be a great honor to serve as
commodore for the 2013 sailing season.
