I
would like to welcome you to the Clear Lake Yacht Club. Since 1935,
the Clear Lake Yacht Club has had a rich history of competitive
sailing. Classes of racing include E scows, C scows, MC scows, X
boats, Hobie Cats and the M17 scow.
In addition to the on the water activities, the
Clear Lake Yacht Club holds several off the water social activities.
These functions are enjoyed by all members, whether you are a new
member or a seasoned sailor.
As a nationally recognized sailing
club, the Clear Lake Yacht Club will host The USODA Great Plains
Championships in August and the 3rd Annual MC Team Regatta in
September.
Like many CLYC families, my family is now in its 4th
generation of competitive sailing on Clear Lake.
To ensure there is a next generation, I have pledged to make
youth sailing a focus during my time as your Commodore.
Thru cooperation with the sailing school, we are making boats
available for club races to youths who may not have access to the lake
or their own boat; We have been successful bringing a national caliber
youth sailing event to Clear Lake in 2012, the USODA Great Plains
Championship; the club will hold scored races in
the Opti Class this summer; and we have a new 420 Fleet arriving that
will be racing competitively during the week by our high and college
aged sailors.
Our Club is
a volunteer organization and those individuals spend countless hours
judging, organizing regattas, making social gatherings a success,
publishing the yearbook, getting trophies made, writing the newsletter
and many other duties.
Much thanks is owed to that group.
I consider it a privilege and
an honor to serve as the commodore for 2012 and wish all of you a safe
summer with great sailing and fair winds.
