The Inter-Lake Regatta is over, which means the heart of regatta season has passed. The ILYA Championships at Lake Geneva is the only really big regatta left on the schedule.
ONE WEEK EXTENSION FOR SAILING SCHOOL…………Because Iowa schools are starting later this year, the Sailing School has extended their season for a week. It will run from Monday, August 10 through Thursday, August 13……….it will be “camp” only……..and it will be held during the hours of 8:30-11:30 am each day. Ages 5 – 16 are encouraged to attend. If you, or a friend or a relative would like to join in this final week of sailing school fun, please register online (www.clycss.com) or come to the Yacht Club on Monday morning to register in person.
AMBER ALERT…….NEXT CLYC PARTY………..is at Jamie and Nancy Zanios’s, 2303 North Shore Drive, on Saturday, August 15 starting at 6:30 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres and beverage service will be handled by the MC, M17 and Hobie Fleets. Jamie and Nancy completely renovated their residence last year just for this party, so don’t miss it!
INTER-LAKE REGATTA REPORT……….A bunch of CLYC Optimist, X, MC and E sailors got a taste of Lake Minnetonka’s tsunami-like motorboat waves during the Inter-Lake Regatta this past weekend. And we learned a few things……..we learned that Minnetonka sailors call the boat waves “angry jello”……we learned that our younger sailors are really starting to come into their own (Emily Oltrogge finished 4th overall in the MC Fleet, right behind her dad, and she wasn’t even on the MC team………if she and Nathan Kotz would have been on the team, our MC team would have crushed the competition…..as it was we had to settle for 2nd in the team standings…………..and Maddi Hess, AJ Hanus and their group of younger sailors matched up against a strong E Fleet)…………….and we learned that regatta scoring is not all that easy (the MC scoring was totally messed up……no one knew who had won the team trophy until a couple days after the regatta was over). Oh well………
