Last weekend’s first CLYC party was a great kickoff to the season…………lots of people, lots of good eats and drinks, and lots of good weather.  The breezes were a little shaky for racing on Saturday, but our PROs got all the races in.  Sunday was a different story……….Mother Nature appears to be sleeping in til about noon on Sundays this year…….as a result, we have no breeze until Sunday afternoon…….oh well.

SUNDAY E BOAT RACE THIS WEEKEND……….A reminder to the E Fleet that this Sunday, June 9, is the first of four designated Sunday races during this summer.  2:00 p.m. is race time.

E INVITATIONAL REGATTA PLANS ARE HEATING UP………….

We are hosting this year’s E Invite on July 11-14. E Boaters please register as soon as possible if you plan on sailing in the regatta.  All the regatta information you need can be found on the opening page of the CLYC web site (www.clyciowa.com).  Plus you can register there by clicking on the “Regatta Registration” link.

Regatta co-chairs, Margaret Osmundson and Brad Price, ask that you contact Margaret at inremoz@aol.comif you can lodge sailors and/or have dock space for an E Boat during the regatta.

Also, please contact Julie Oltrogge at clyciowa@gmail.comif you would like to volunteer to help with registration, lunches, taxis, Saturday evening dinner……..there are lots of different time slots available.

The big Saturday evening party during the regatta is open to all CLYC members BUT tickets must be purchased during registration on July 11th………..tickets are $35.

CLEAR LAKE SAILING CENTER CLASSES…………start on Monday, June 10th………so the Yacht Club will be a rollicking busy and fun place for the next couple of months.

IN CASE YOU DIDN’T HEAR…………..the godfather of North Sails, Lowell North, passed away last week at 89.  He revolutionized the sail making industry thirty years or so ago by applying computer technology to the testing and making of sails.  Most of us have him to thank for the fact that when we order a sail we can trust that it will have the same shape as the sail we ordered the last time.

THE “LASER” IS DEAD……LONG LIVE THE “LASER”…………..There’s a big brouhaha going on in the world of Laser sailboats.  A huge legal fight broke out between the International Laser Class Association (ILCA) and the European builder.  It hasn’t been resolved, so the ILCA has decided that Lasers can no longer be called “Lasers.”  They will henceforth be called the “ILCA Dinghy”, which sounds like the type of blah name only a committee could come up with.  So, you’ve been forewarned if you tell someone you have a “Laser” and they correct you.  On the other hand, this might be like when they changed the name of the Sears Tower in Chicago to the Willis Tower………and no one uses the new name.  We can only hope!!

Later, Oz
