August 9, 2019

For the first weekend in a while, we will have club races and no off-lake regattas.  But that will all change again starting next week.  Since everyone is at the lake this weekend, we might as well have some get togethers after the racing is over.  Speaking of racing, rumor has it that we sent some MCs and Cs to Okoboji for the 124th Interlake Regatta last weekend………..and Stu Oltrogge and Mark Tesar grabbed the top two MC podium positions with Bill Nicholas finishing 5th in the C Fleet.

FRIDAY NIGHT SOCIAL……..If you missed the first one back in July, there is one this Friday, August 9 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Yacht Club.  The CLYC is partnering with area businesses this year to host their employees and families for a social event at the Yacht Club.  The goal is to showcase the CLYC and the Clear Lake Sailing Center and generate some interest and enthusiasm in both.  This Friday we welcome the Dental Center of North Iowa (yes, the one that Blake Barnes, long time CLYC member, and his son, Eric, are part of).  Sailboats will be available for rides.  All CLYC members are invited and encouraged to come and help promote our sport, our club and the sailing center.

CLYC PARTY THIS WEEKEND…………Saturday evening, August 10, all CLYC members are invited to Ken and Paula Hanus’s home on the south shore (4072 240th Street) for the last regular party of the season.  Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. and the MCs, M17s and Hobies get to treat all of us with their hors d’oeuvres creations.

CLYC BOARD MEETING RESCHEDULE………….The next board meeting has been rescheduled from Sunday, August 25 to Sunday, September 1, but it will still be at 1:30 p.m. and it will still be at the Yacht Club.  Apparently, several of the board members will be en route that day returning from (you guessed it) a regatta.

SAD NEWS………Long time CLYC member and promoter of CLYC’s first Hobie Fleet in the 70’s, Mick Minette passed away last week.

And that’s all the news that’s fit to print……….

Later, Oz
