Ice is out and the docks are going in.  Let's get this rock'n summer going!!
3rd May

2023

Crow’s Nest 05/04/23

My goodness, it’s May! That’s right, it’s May!  The long days of enjoying the lake in the bright sunshine and intense humidity are coming very soon.  You know what else is coming even sooner?  The registration deadline!  Sunday, May 7th is the deadline for getting your name in the all important Yearbook; your proof to the future generations of being involved in one of the greatest summers Clear Lake has ever had! If you’ve already registered, we greatly appreciate it!  Oh wait… Did you encourage all your friends to join as well?  If you haven’t, you certainly should!  It’s not just about being a member of the Club; it’s about networking with new people, enjoying the lake with new friends, cultivating new sailors and creating lasting memories!

Our membership fees are perhaps the lowest club dues around. Check these out:

  • Base Membership – New Member – $100
  • Base Membership (Social Members; required for racing boats except the Melges 15 Developmental Series)  – $125
  • Junior Base Membership (Those not included in a parents membership who are under age 30) – $55
  • Racing Boat – $170 per boat (E, C, MC, M15, Hobie)
  • Racing X Boat – $65 per boat
  • Melges 15 Developmental Series (Base Membership not required) – $60 per boat

CLYC Registration

The CLYC Building committee would like to thank all of the people that came to the Clean-up on Saturday.  The building looks great.  Thank you to: Mark & Deb Tesar, Dave Haugerud, Stu Oltrogge, Tom Birdsall, Randy Kotz, Collin Day, Lexa and Billy Starbeck, Ed Quinn, Mark Ebeling, Casey Callanan, Brandon & Mitch Conway, Kathy MacNider, Karen Stumme. We also would like to thank our resident Ice Machine repair person Dave Miller for taking care of a leak in the ice machine.  -CLYC Building committee

2023 is going to be one of the greatest years yet!  We start the Club racing season in just three weeks; the Memorial Day Regatta kicks us off!  Later in June the X boaters have the Annual West Water Clinic… For the first time in years, the CLYC is hosting an ILYA Championship; it happens to be just the 2nd Annual ILYA Championship in the Melges 15 Class.  That regatta is from August 3-6; we’re estimating more than 50 boats will be on the line for 3 days competing for the coveted title of ILYA Champion.  Volunteers will be needed in great magnitude for the event; Julie Oltrogge will be the point person once again for rounding folks up… Let’s make it easy on her, shall we!?  If you’re able to volunteer even in the slightest capacity, it would be greatly appreciated by the organizers.  Contact Julie at clyciowa@gmail.com

Just four weeks remain until the opening of the Clear Lake Sailing Center!  Registration is open on their website, www.clycss.com. You’ll certainly want to get everyone interested registered soon, the spots will fill quickly and you don’t want to be left out!  Billy Starbeck and Easton Devries lead a large group of instructors this year; from beginner to racer, young to not-so-young, this team is ready to teach!

We have much more to cover in the coming weeks, so please stay tuned!  In the meantime, don’t forget to pay your registration and encourage all your friends to do the same!

Until next time friends!

Stay in the Clear Air,

Dan Allen
